CERGAM

/cer·gam/ was originally an acronym for cerita (story) and gambar (illustration) = illustrated stories. In the development of Indonesian comics, many agreed to use the word "cergam" as the Indonesian comic brand, as well as a historical reference to the golden age of cergam. A single word that represents the combination of story and sequential images, presenting a narrative, similar to the meaning of comics and sequential arts. Indonesian comics are Cergam, and vice versa.

AKSI - Indonesian Comics Association, is an association whose members are studios and companies that develop characters, stories, and universe started from comic-based IPs.

The Indonesian Comics Association (AKSI) was officially declared on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. This association was established by intellectual property managers in the country, both comic artists and companies, focusing on comics media. These include Bumilangit (owner of the intellectual property of legendary local comic characters such as Si Buta, Gundala, Godam, etc.), PIONICON (Si Juki), Octopus Garden (Mice Cartoon), Infia (Komikin Ajah), FranKKomiK (Setan Jalanan), Skylar Komik (Volt & Valentine), Ciayo Comics (Heartbeat & Blue Serenade), re:ON Comics (Grand Legend Ramayana & Galauman), Kosmik (Manungsa & Wanoja), and Padma Pusaka (Nusa Five).

The formation of this association has been a long journey. First conceived in 2014, the discourse was finally rolled out until the Indonesian Comics Association (AKSI) was finally declared on April 24, 2018. AKSI's vision is to make the Indonesian comics industry part of the National Cultural Strategy in the International Realm and to build an Indonesian comics industry ecosystem.

Intellectual Property (IP) development plays a crucial role in the comics industry. IP is an intellectual property right that encompasses copyright and trademarks associated with a work or product. In the context of the comics industry, IP development is key to leveraging comic works to achieve greater economic value.

By developing IP, comics industry practitioners can protect the copyrights and trademarks of their works, thereby preventing infringement and misuse. Furthermore, strong IP can also provide opportunities for business expansion and diversification. Through IP development, comics industry players can produce derivative products such as merchandise, film adaptations, and video games, which can increase the visibility and appeal of comics among the public.

Therefore, IP development is crucial for the comics industry in creating a sustainable ecosystem and generating greater added value.
